For centuries Chinese artists have sought to depict this harmonious balance on paper and silk. Traditional Chinese paintings, sometimes known as "Pictorial Tao", seek to transmit this balanced, and therefore healthy, Oneness to the viewer.
The Taoist way in art is to gradually attune the onlooker through the particular inner rhythms of nature to the essence of the great Tao itself - bringing health, longevity and a sense of "belonging" in the world. Although not generally accepted by the west until relatively recently in China aesthetics and artforms have long been understood to significantly affect us for good or ill.
