Liu Dongying was born in 1938 and is a graduate of Luxun Fine Arts Academy. Along with her husband, Professor Lan Yongrang, she is now a Professor of Chinese Painting at Luxun Fine Arts Academy.
Professor Liu Dongying is currently the Director of Liaoning Chinese Painting Research Association and is a member of the Chinese Fine Arts Association.
She has twice been invited to Taipei, Taiwan, to exhibit her work at the Mastery of Figure Painting Exhibition. The Taiwanese National Arts Education Institute have also selected her paintings for inclusion in their syllabus. An extremely talented contemporary Chinese artist, her painting specialism lies in the natural depiction of flowers and birds.
Professor Liu Dongying has also accepted invitations to hold exclusive exhibitions of her work in Taipei, and exclusive exhibitions and lecture tours in Japan. Articles on Chinese Calligraphy and Painting, written by her, have been published by Liaoning Fine Arts Publishing House and in the Hong Kong publication "Wenhui".

"Quite Yard" which achieved the Merit of 1988 in The China Cup Awards
"Poppy" achieved the Merit at the first Teacher's Day Calligraphy and Painting Exhibition
"Scene Along the Yard" and "Shriveled Corn" won prizes at the sixth and eighth All China Fine Arts Exhibitions
"In the Fall" was awarded the Bronze Medal at the Contemporary Chinese Figure Painting Exhibition and was later purchased by the Chinese Fine Arts Gallery and added to their permanent collection.
